Tipp's Birth Story

Before it gets to far behind us and I forget more of the small details I feel like I need to get this written down.

My OB doctor began getting concerned about the health of things at my last appointment. I wasn't progressing at all and although he knew I wanted to wait for things to happen naturally he was worried that Tipp had gone way past his due date. At our 20 week appointment Tipp measured larger than a November 10th due date and more around November 4th. On November 7th I had an appointment and still no progression so we agreed to schedule induction for November 15th. Secretly I walked out praying that labor would begin before then. We came home and let everyone know the plan. I started walking as much and as far as I could possibly walk. I ate pineapple by the can and whole fresh pineapples. NOTHING happened.

On November 14th we met Mrs Ginger in Mobile and checked into the hospital at 7:30pm. After getting settled in they started the cytotech to see if things would progress through the night. I was actually having contractions when they put the monitor on, but I couldn't feel them yet.

Sydney was my nurse through the night.

NOTHING happened through the night and at 6am they began giving me pitocin in my IV. (Sidenote: Pitocin is from the Devil.) I began having back labor first and that was horrible. I tried ice, and moving into different positions, nothing seemed to help. All through this there was still no progression. I hadn't dilated at all and my water couldn't be broken. I finally took a Demerol about 12 when Dr Bentley said he was going to come back at 12:30 and try to break my water. About 12:15 my water broke on its own as I was getting out of the bed to move around some. Things still didn't move along and Tipp was at a -2 station. For 3 hours this continued and my pitocin drip was as high as it could go. Around 3pm my nurse LaTanya noticed that Tipp's heart rate was dropping after each contraction which is not the normal time for a heart deceleration. She turned the pitocin off and he tolerated the contractions normally. As she began to turn the pitocin back up his heart rate began dropping again. This was about 5:00. Dr Bentley was called and he came in to check things out. At this point I had dilated to 3cm but Tipp was still at -2 station.

My support Team for the Day was awesome.

Big Mama and Nanny watching the monitors and giving a play by play to everyone at home.

Ok. Let me sidetrack here and say yes, I wanted an all natural birth and I wanted this and that, but when it all comes down to it I wanted Tipp safe and healthy, and God had it planned differently than I did and I'm completely ok with that. God knew how big Tipp was and He put LaTanya there to take care of us and see the issues Tipp was having.

Ok, Dr Bentley was in the room, apologizing like crazy for suggesting a C-Section but explaining to us that it could take 6-7 more hours of labor and Tipp's heart was still being effected by the contractions. I was all aboard. We just wanted him here and safe. So we prepped for surgery.

Here are Daniel and Mrs Ginger waiting to go. Mama went in as well.

The c-Section took about 15 minutes and Tipp was here!!

5:39pm

8 pounds 15 ounces

God has blessed us beyond measure with this precious, healthy little boy. We can't be thankful enough for His mercy and grace.

38 weeks

Wow!!! Time has truly flown by for the past 8 and half months. I can honestly say that pregnancy hasn't been as tough as I expected. The nausea wasn't fun by any means and moving around is a bit more involved these days but it isn't horrible.

Little man is still very active and not making any progress toward arrival. At my appointment on the 31st of October I still hadn't dilated any. It's possible that Tipp has dropped a few centimeters but he could have just been in a ball when the doctor measured my stomach.

I do look a little lower I guess. Maybe it's just the shirt.

And like a rag doll at the same time. Woof!!!

My feet and hands are still swollen and I don't get much relief from that fun side effect. Even raising them above my heart, they don't shrink much. It's cool! Not much longer.

I'm having indigestion these days and Tipp gets the hiccups almost every night for 20-30 minutes. Last night he decided to lay on my right side while I watched tv.

Mom and I had a great afternoon on Friday. We had pedicures and manicures. She rocks! It was very relaxing to have the swollen piggies pampered for just a little while.

8 days until our due date. My bags are packed and waiting. Now to get Daddy to pack a bag and we'll be set.

37 weeks

Are we seriously only 3 weeks away from Tipp's due date?!?! Wow! Time has flown by so fast. Seems like just yesterday we found out.

We're ready for his arrival as far as his nursery goes and we have the car seat in the car. My bags are packed, just sitting in the nursery floor.

Tipp is still a super active little fella, rolling around and stretching. This makes breathing a little difficult but it isn't bad.

The past few months we've been busy. We went to an Auburn game and Tipp seemed to love all the noise. He was super active during the game and pep rally.

(30 weeks)

We have been blessed by our family and friends with three showers for Tipp. One at the bank where I work, one in Troy, and one in Beatrice.

The Bank shower (32 weeks)

The Beatrice Shower

Wonderful friends that came from Jackson for the shower.

Larry and Cindy Weaver and Bubba and Betty Jo Rikard.

Joy and I grew up next door to each other in Jackson.

(36 weeks)

Mama and Aunt Becky with their granddaughters, Becky and Charley Kate.

The past several weeks I've had major swelling in my feet and hands as well as a bout with cellulitis (first ER visit ever!). I've learned to just prop my feet up anywhere I can and it keeps the swelling to a manageable level.

Check out these beauties!!

Compression tights are HOT!! However, hey do help with the swelling.

I've taken a few pictures here and there of the progress of this growing belly.

(Here at 35 weeks)
A miserable picture but it shows the size if this baby.

37 weeks
(Miss Molley is ready for her little brother to arrive.)

I'm not having many symptoms these days. I have Braxton Hicks on occasion, indigestion and of course the swelling. I seem to be sleeping ok, some nights I have trouble finding a comfortable way to sleep but most of the time I'm out like a light.

Still no major cravings, haven't really had any this entire time. I have enjoyed peanut butter, apples, skittles, chips and salsa, and chocolate milk.

Tipp's Nursery

We're almost finished with Tipp's nursery and I've taken a few pictures along the way. It started as out Guest/Sewing/Office/ Hunting room. Mom painted the walls for us and then we painted my vintage crib and an old dresser I found at our local antique mall.

I think big sister, Molley, approves of the color.

All the furniture preparations took place in Dad's barn. Nursery furniture took over for a few weeks.

Daniel and Hoot n Nanny painted and glued and strengthened all of the vintage furniture for the nursery.

Daniel added his creative touch for the curtain tie backs. Aren't these piece for a little boy???

This was my Jenny Lind crib. Daniel and Daddy have updated and secured it just right for Tipp.

The old dresser and chair fit just right and Daniel's fish was a perfect touch for our vintage look.

Below is the opposite wall from the dresser. The baseball picture was a Pinterest project that says "Everyone commits errors...but His sacrifice will get you home." The big teddy bear has been part of our family since I was probably a year old. His name is "Papa Bear." I plan to use him for Tipp's monthly "Watch me grow" pictures. Any suggestions for cleaning the very large, very big teddy bear??

Danny Ralph "Tipp" Boutwell IV

Little man has a name! We have decided to continue the name of his Father, Grandfather and Great Grandfather.

"Tip" is what everyone calls Daniel's Grandad so we will continue the tradition and name him Danny Ralph Boutwell IV and call him "Tipp." We chose a slightly different spelling on purpose, to cut down on confusion.
